A new book explains Catalonia’s independence push in Norwegian
DIPLOCAT – Written by Johannes Nymark and edited with the help of DIPLOCAT, it will be presented in Oslo today
The Norwegian capital will hold an event on Catalonia today with the title “Sovereignty for Catalonia? The most recent developments in Catalan politics”. This event has been organised to present a new book that explains Catalonia abroad, in this case in Norway: Draumen om Catalonia (Catalonia’s Dream), written by university professor Johannes Nymark and edited by Det Norske Samlaget with the help of the Public Diplomacy Council of Catalonia (DIPLOCAT).
The book provides keys to understanding the current sovereignty process in Catalonia, with chapters on the history of Catalonia, its economic and industrial development, and its distinct identity based mainly on language and culture. There is also a whole chapter devoted to FC Barcelona and its symbolism. Nymark remarks the contrast throughout history between centralist and conservative Madrid and a more liberal and open to the world Barcelona. This is why most innovations, whether in the field of architecture, art or social thought, have usually reached Spain via Catalonia.
The event will include welcome words by a representative of the publishing house; Martí Estruch, International Press Officer at DIPLOCAT, will speak on the current state of affairs in Catalonia; and Johannes Nymark will talk about the book.
